If
you dream of teaching scuba diving and are already at PADI Divemaster
level, then the IDC program
(Assistant Instructor - AI/Open Water Scuba Instructor - OWSI) will
take you there!
The first part of the full IDC is the Assistant Instructor (AI) Course,
which we run over a minimum of
4½ days.
The aim of the course is to take those who already have instructor level
dive theory, excellent confined
water and rescue demonstration skills and leadership qualities and develop
those skills so that the
candidate can prepare and conduct PADI training in the classroom, pool
and open water.
The course structure ensures the candidate has a complete
understanding and familiarity with the PADI system, its
educational goals and philosophies.
Commencing with independent learning and study, our course
schedule provides ample time for the candidate to prepare,
refine and perfect their presentational style at the same time
as mastering how to deliver and control scuba diving courses
and activities in both confined and open water.
Candidates will prepare Knowledge Development, Confined
and Open Water presentations over a number of days. With
the help and encouragement of their peer candidates and
IDC staff, these presentations will be refined so that by the
end of the course, each candidate will be a polished and
relaxed performer, confident that they know their subject
and are able to deliver a fun, controlled and engaging
presentation.
Our Assistant Instructor program is designed to be the
perfect preparation and introduction to the Open Water
Scuba Instructor portion of the full IDC.
If you opt for the full IDC, the AI course forms the first part (4½
days) and the OWSI program the latter 5 days.
On completion of the full IDC, you will be fully prepared to be able
to pass the Instructor Exam (IE) with ease and confidence.
To ensure our AI candidates have every chance of becoming successful
dive educators, we insist on low candidate/staff ratios - never more
than 2:1 - after all, at this stage of your dive career you want to
be sure that you are going to get all the time, advice and encouragement
you need from your course staff.
There are a lot of dive centres offering AI courses /IDC's and the choice
can be bewildering. You need to be sure that the course you choose will
offer you the support and time you need to succeed.
As a candidate on our instructor level courses, you won't just complete
the minimum required number of evaluated presentations - you'll complete
far more. This means that you get more practice, more guidance and more
opportunity to perfect your preparation and presentational style.
We're happy for any prospective candidate to call in and have a chat
with our IDC staff and ask any questions they may have and which may
help.
Who you complete your IDC with is perhaps the most important dive course
choice you will make - be sure it's the right one.
