The second part of the full IDC is the Open Water Scuba Instructor (OWSI) program, which we run
over a minimum of 5 days.

The program aims to develop Assistant Instructors so that they can go on to teach PADI dive courses
all the way from Discover Scuba up to Divemaster level.

The course structure ensures the candidate has a complete understanding and familiarity with the PADI
system, its educational goals and philosophies.

Commencing with independent learning and study, our course schedule provides ample time for the candidate to further
refine and perfect their presentational style at the same time
as mastering how to deliver and control scuba diving courses
and activities in both confined and open water.

Candidates will prepare Knowledge Development, Confined
and Open Water presentations over a number of days. With
the help and encouragement of their peer candidates,
Course Director and IDC staff, these presentations will
be refined so that by the end of the course, each candidate
will be a polished and relaxed performer, safe in the
knowledge that they can enter the Instructor Examination (IE)
with confidence.

If you opt for the full IDC, the AI course forms the first part
(4½ days) and the OWSI program the latter 5 days.
On completion of the full IDC, you will be fully prepared to be
able to pass the Instructor Exam (IE) with ease and
confidence.

To ensure our OWSI candidates have every chance of
becoming successful dive educators, we insist on low
candidate/staff ratios- never more than 2:1 - after all,
at this stage of your dive career you want to be sure that you are going to get all the time, advice and
encouragement you need from your course staff.

There are a lot of dive centres offering AI courses /IDC's and the choice can be bewildering. You need to be sure that the course you choose will offer you the support and time you need to succeed.

As a candidate on our instructor level courses, you won't just complete the minimum required number of evaluated presentations - you'll complete far more. This means that you get more practice, more guidance and more opportunity to perfect your preparation and presentational style.

We're happy for any prospective candidate to call in and have a chat with our Course Director, Vernon Vas and IDC staff and ask any questions they may have and which may help.

Who you complete your IDC with is perhaps the most important dive course choice you will make - be sure it's the right one.
