The range of PADI Specialty courses contain something for everyone, from Naturalist to Wreck Diver.

You can choose the area of diving that interests you most, and then pick the Specialty course
which will give you the extra knowledge and skills in that area.

Each course consists of either two, three or four dives and on completion, the student is awarded
the appropriate Specialty Diver rating.

Five Specialty ratings with Rescue Diver and EFR enable the prestigious Master Scuba Diver rating to be applied for.

Don't forget, that Specialty course dives can be credited to Adventure Diver and Advanced Open Water Diver courses and vice versa.

Learn the skills and procedures for diving from hard boats and rigid inflatable boats (RIB's) including all the correct terminology.

During the course, you will learn the various factors to be taken into account whilst boat diving, including dive boat etiquette, so that you know how and where to store dive gear, the roles of the various boat crew and how to safely and competently dive from various different types of boat.

The specific practices for boat diving will be covered as will the use and deployment of delayed surface marker buoys (SMB's) so that your location can be tracked by the boat crew.

This is essential to prevent separation of diver from dive boat.

During the course of two open water dives, you will learn the skills and techniques of diving in currents.

Drift diving can be exhilarating where you are carried along by the movement of water and can range from a gentle drift to a "seat of your pants" ride!

Techniques associated with drift diving from boats including entries and exits and also use of surface marker buoys are covered along with how to deal with water movement and currents underwater.

Some of the world's best dives are drifts and this course gives you the confidence to dive in moving water safely.

Following feedback from various people such as boat skippers and other divers, we have devised and written a PADI Distinctive Specialty course to teach divers the correct and safe use of reels and SMB’s.

This course, fully reviewed and approved by PADI, consists of a theory session, one pool dive to gain familiarity with deploying various types of reel and SMB’s and then two open water dives where the skill development is put into practice.

The course costs £99 per person and includes the use of all equipment (the only extra is the entry fee into Horsea).

Upon completion, students will receive a PADI Distinctive Specialty PIC card.

Full Face Masks (FFMs) are now becoming more and more popular with recreational divers.

They have a number of advantages over the conventional scuba mask and regulator but there are also a number of special considerations to take into account when diving with a full face mask.

This course covers the background to full face mask diving as well as all theory elements necessary to safely and successfully dives with these specialised pieces of equipment.

Included in the course is a confined water session where you will learn and practice FFM skills before progressing to open water, where you will further refine your FFM dive skills.

Explore the various benefits of diving with an increased percentage of oxygen in the air you breathe.

You will learn the theory behind using Nitrox blends up to 40% O2 and the various advantages including extended bottom time, shorter surface intervals and increased safety margins.

Also some of the myths will be exploded, such as the fact that it's difficult to learn.

The course is completed by analysing two different nitrox mixes which you have will also work out a dive plan for.

There are no longer any dives required for this specialty certification.

Extend the bottom times of your dives by learning the skills to plan and execute multilevel dives within the limits of the Wheel RDP and dive computers.

You will learn how and why you get to credit the time spent at shallower depths into your dive time so that you get to spend longer looking at the things that interest you.

During the course, you will put into practice multilevel dive skills and plan and calculate the appropriate dive profile.

The Specialty will give you a much greater insight into dive tables and planning and executing multilevel dives so that you can get the most benefit out of your dives.

During the course of two open water dives, you will fine tune your buoyancy skills to make you more relaxed and streamlined in the water, thus using less air.

Proper weighting for different types of exposure suits will be discussed and the chance to experiment with the placement of weights under the guidance on an Instructor will make you a more confident and relaxed diver.

You will find that reducing or redistributing the weight you dive with can reduce stress and physical effort, so that you are more relaxed and use less air.

Buoyancy skills are the most important a diver can practice and this course helps you to master them.

Most of the time we dive in daylight, but much of the interesting aquatic life comes out only after the sun has set.

On the Night Diver course, you will learn how to safely and comfortably explore underwater after dark.

You will learn about equipment considerations and lighting, communications and signals, how to navigate with a compass and using natural references. You will also discuss underwater hazards and how to deal with them.

During the course of three open water night dives, you will put the theory into practice with your instructor's guidance and also identify some of the creatures that are seen after dark.

Explore the mysteries of the deeper depths and learn the skills needed to safely and competently dive up to 40 metres depth.

This course will explore contingency considerations, how to plan deeper dives, physical effects and handling emergencies such as missed decompressions stops. The necessary equipment considerations will also be discussed and put into practice during the four open water dives of the course.

You will also perform some simple fun tasks at depth and again at the surface to compare the effects of nitrogen absorption on your reaction times. You will also investigate pressure changes and colour differences.

Some experience of diving in excess of 18m is advisable before embarking on this course.
